Eye bolts are used on façades and roofs for a range of suspension applications. With significant levels of force exerted on these points, ensuring structural integrity is paramount to prevent catastrophic failure and ensure the safety of personnel and the public.
SCAFFOLD-FREE INSPECTION AND TESTING
If your building has eye bolts on its façade or roof, you will need to plan for annual or bi-annual inspection and testing by a certified technician. This is required for compliance with BS EN 795 and BS 7883:2019 standards.
Using MEWPs (Mobile Elevating Work Platforms), our certified technicians can inspect the eye bolt and the surrounding area at height without the need for scaffolding. This visual assessment ensures the substrate in which the eye bolt is embedded is free from cracks, loose or missing material, and is structurally competent. We then inspect the eye bolt itself for corrosion, structural damage, and correct installation.
FAÇADE EYE BOLT TESTING
Once these visual checks have been completed, our certified technician will perform calibrated load testing. We test each eye bolt at 6 kN of force for 180 seconds. If it passes, a numbered ID tag is issued and attached, indicating the permitted use and date of the next test. In the event of a failure, the eye bolt is tagged ‘DO NOT USE’. At every stage of the process, photographic records are taken and logged.
Once on-site testing is complete, you will receive a comprehensive report for every eye bolt inspected. For units that did not pass, we can provide a quote for repair or for correct installation.
