Styles Façade Solutions® (formerly Thomann-Hanry®) delivered a comprehensive programme of surveying, cleaning, restoration and redecoration at The Northcliffe, London commercial facade cleaning. Using specialist MEWPs, our team completed the surveys quickly and safely without scaffolding. This hands-on approach allowed our engineers to inspect the façade in detail, identify risks, and make safe any loose elements. Following the survey, our specialist façade cleaning services carried out commercial façade cleaning, external façade cleaning, and commercial building cleaning using our low-pressure, water-free Façade Gommage system, restoring the building’s appearance without damaging historic materials.
The final phase included extensive commercial façade restoration, commercial façade refurbishment, and commercial building restoration works. Repairs identified during the survey were completed by expert masons before redecoration works restored the building’s character, delivering a high-quality stone façade restoration London project without the need for intrusive scaffolding.

The Grade II-listed Northcliffe, formerly the home to The Daily Mail and its printing presses, has recently undergone a significant redevelopment to deliver over 17,300 m2 of premium office space. Named in memory of Alfred Harmsworth,1st Viscount Northcliffe – the owner of Amalgamated Press (which owned the Daily Mail and Daily Mirror among its titles).
The Northcliffe is an impressive industrial landmark. Opened in 1926 to house the company’s offices and high-speed printing presses, the building gained listed status in the 1980s. Today, the site is undergoing redevelopment to provide Grade A office space in the City.

The swift turnaround of our visual commercial building façade survey was achieved using our specialist fleet of MEWPs (Mobile Elevating Work Platforms). This eliminated the need for costly, visually unappealing and intrusive scaffolding.
Crucially, our MEWP-based surveys offer a distinct advantage over drone inspections; by ensuring our qualified specialists can get up close to the façade, we can inspect, record, and when needed, remove and make safe items which could fall from the building.

Following the detailed and illustrated façade survey, Styles Façade Solutions® was instructed to clean, repair and redecorate the façade. Using our low-pressure, water-free Façade Gommage cleaning process, our expert team completed a multi-level clean across various substrates. This gentle, dry process revealed the building’s original character without risking the damage often caused by high-pressure steam or solvent-based cleaning methods.
Once the cleaning process was complete, our expert masons worked to repair or replace areas highlighted during the façade survey. This work was conducted after the façade clean, to allow for the repairs to better match the true colour of the stone and brickwork.

As with all services from Styles Façade Solutions®, these have been conducted without the use of scaffolding, which can add significant costs to a project, and instead used the more convenient and flexible MEWP system.
In the final stage of the commercial façade clean and restoration, our painting and decoration team, with a few precise licks of paint, added the final touches to restoring the façade of this impressive, listed building in the heart of the former printing and publishing district of the City of London.
