The Beaumont Hotel
Styles Façade Solutions® (formerly Thomann-Hanry®) was instructed by The Beaumont to carry out hotel facade painting alongside window metalwork touch-ups, canopy cleaning, and polishing of its 22-metre steel sculpture. As the 5-star listed hotel couldn’t close, scaffolding was ruled out in favour of MEWPs, scheduled to avoid disrupting daily operations.
The painting team began with meticulous cleaning, crack filling, window masking and render repairs, before applying paint matched exactly to the hotel’s colour specifications.
Once complete, the restoration team hand-buffed and polished the metalwork, including the sensitive ‘Room’ statue, leaving The Beaumont’s exterior faithfully restored to its early 20th century grandeur.

FROM CAR PARK TO 5-STAR RETREAT
The 8 Balderton Street site, situated in the heart of Mayfair, was constructed to the designs of architects Wimperis & Simpson in 1925-26 as a multi-storey car park for Macy’s Garage. The site served high-end clientele and their chauffeurs when they frequented Selfridges and other nearby luxury stores.
The neo-classical designed building was constructed using concrete and steel internal structures finished with an “Atlas White” Portland cement. It featured innovative details such as a recessed forecourt for petrol pumps, an internal straight ramp system that allowed motorists to drive to the first floor, and a ground-floor lift and turntable.
In 2009, it became one of only a handful of car parks to gain listed status. After almost 90 years of consistent use as a vehicle storage facility, work began in 2010 to convert the building into a new luxury hotel, ‘The Beaumont’. This transformation included the monumental figure sculpture by Antony Gormley, known simply as ‘Room’, perched atop one of the side pavilions (and, unlike many sculptures, guests can actually book a stay inside the ‘Room’).
Styles Façade Solutions® carries out façade redecoration works at the Grade II listed Beaumont Hotel in London. A MEWP lifts a technician up the cream Art Deco façade to work on the upper storey detailing.
SCAFFOLD-FREE REFURBISHMENT FOR AN OPERATIONAL 5-STAR HOTEL
Styles Façade Solutions® was instructed by The Beaumont to conduct a gentle refurbishment of its striking façade, including hotel facade painting, window metalwork touch-ups, canopy cleaning, and polishing of the 22-metre-high steel sculpture. Our team of expertly qualified restorers and painters deliver precision and care in façade refurbishments which befits a 5-star, listed hotel.
With the hotel unable to close for the duration of the refurbishment, erecting traditional scaffolding was deemed costly, unsightly, time-consuming, and a potential security risk to high-profile guests. Styles Façade Solutions®' innovative approach to site access was a key factor in securing the contract. Using Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), work was scheduled at times that were convenient and, crucially, didn't prevent the day-to-day operations of the hotel.
The painting team started the process with meticulous cleaning and remediation, filling cracks, cleaning and masking windows and replacing missing or loose render. Working to the hotel's exact colour specifications, an appropriate exterior paint was applied to help restore the building back to its original grandeur.
HAND-RESTORED MASONRY AND SPECIALIST METALWORK REJUVENATION
Once the painting team had finished, our restoration and cleaning team arrived to buff, polish and rejuvenate the metalwork. The need to be sympathetic to the materials used on the ‘Room’ statue, resulted in the need to hand wash and buff the steel surface.
The careful restoration of the exterior of The Beaumont Hotel resulted in a rejuvenated appearance which is faithful to its early 20th century heritage and reflects the classic luxury which can be found within.
